I was proud last week of Cindy McCain for participating in the NoH8 campaign, but apparently she’s flip flopping. Yesterday she tweeted:
“I fully support the NoH8 campaign and all it stands for and am proud to be a part of it. But I stand by my husband’s stance on DADT.”
Originally she had lamented how gays can’t serve openly.
Gays have always served in the military, sacrificing their lives for others. A great book on this is Allan Berube’s Coming Out Under Fire, The History fo Gay Men and Women in World War Two. What’s very interesting to me is how the military shifted from a stance against behaviors to a stance against individual people. Highly recommended book.
